Our Purpose
Tees & Smoke exists to support veterans by creating meaningful connection, wellness, and community through the game of golf.
We host annual charity golf tournaments that bring together veterans, supporters, and community partners for a day of camaraderie, recreation, and purpose. These events provide veterans with an opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences while enjoying the physical and mental benefits of the game.
Proceeds from our tournaments support veteran-focused initiatives that promote wellness, engagement, and community connection. By combining golf, camaraderie, and charitable giving, Tees & Smoke honors the service of our nation’s veterans while creating opportunities for connection and positive impact.

Our Founder
James Woods
James Woods is a native Texan, born in Houston and raised in California as the youngest of eleven children. Growing up in a low-income household shaped his perspective on resilience, service, and the importance of giving back.
For more than 22 years, James has served as a registered emergency nurse, including extensive experience at a VA hospital, where he had the privilege of caring for veterans and witnessing firsthand the challenges many face after service. Those experiences deepened his commitment to supporting veterans beyond the clinical setting.
Tees & Smoke was founded in honor of a promise James made to his late uncle, Horace Kelly Jr., a retired U.S. Marine, to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans. That promise continues to guide the organization’s mission to foster connection, wellness, and community through charitable golf events.
James believes that community, shared experience, and purposeful engagement are essential to supporting veterans, and these values remain at the heart of Tees & Smoke.
